As part of your disaster recovery plan (which should be kept off site) it is a good idea to include the up to date claims helpline telephone number of the insurer involved, these can be found in your policy booklet.

Useful Tips & Hints For Motor Claims - At the scene of the accident:
Always obtain the name and address of the driver and the owner of the vehicle and if possible ask them to show you evidence that is correct.
Always make sure you take a note of the registration number of all other vehicles involved.
Always try to get a the name and address of someone who witnessed the accident, even if you are at fault. (This may help reduce the cost of the claim made against you)
Take Photos. If your mobile phone has a camera take photographs of the damage to all vehicles, position of vehicles and the general accident scene.
Do not admit liability even if at fault as this can invalidate your policy, simply provide your details to the third party and ask them to contact us.
Claims need to be reported immediately (this will help reduce bogus personal injury claims).
If the police are involved take a note of the incident number, the name an number of the policeman dealing with the incident and the address and telephone number of the station they work from.
