Claims Advice Service

When an accident occurs you may need help. Initially your insurers will handle the claim and the repairs to your vehicle. However, there may be other uninsured losses such as the policy excess, a hire vehicle, loss of earnings or a personal injury to claim for.

In these circumstances where the accident is non fault this service will help recover your out of pocket expenses and claims for compensation.

In the event of an accident or breakdown the information and contact numbers below will help you get through to the relevant department.

Useful Tips & Hints For Motor Claims:

At the scene of the accident:

In the event of an accident, please try to stay calm, check if anyone is injured and if so call the emergency services.

Your mobile phone can be useful:

Take photographs of the position of the vehicles involved

Take pictures of the damage to all vehicles especially the third party vehicle

Some phones can record messages, use this as a method to record what the other people say, they can sometimes change their story later on

Remember to take full details of the other party involved including:

Drivers Name, Address, Contact Numbers

(Try these numbers whilst you are with the person to make sure they are correct)

Owners Name, Address, Contact numbers
(Try these numbers whilst you are with the person to make sure they are correct)

Ask the other party if they can show you some evidence to confirm their details, driving licence, letter with their name and address on or a business card etc

CCTV

Make a note to see if there are any CCTV cameras and who they might belong to, i.e. traffic camera or camera on a shop front etc. If it might be useful as evidence, it would be worth you asking them to keep a copy of the footage if they have captured the accident on camera

Accident Responsibility

Do not admit liability even if at fault as this can invalidate your policy, simply provide your details to the third party and ask them to contact us.

Try to find out the name address and policy number of their insurance.

Accident Information

Make a note of the date, time and location of the accident, road name, junction etc

Make a note of how many people were in the third party car

Reporting the claim

Claims need to be reported immediately (this will help reduce bogus personal injury claims).

Even if it is only a minor bump report it straight away, the phone lines are open 24/7. This helps your insurance company reduce claims costs and protects you from over inflated claims.
