With 25 years of insurance experience, Steve prides himself on delivering excellent customer service and getting it right the first time, every time. Steve is responsible for our private clients and specialist vehicles and he is passionate about delivering the best outcomes for clients.
Outside of work, Steve enjoys spending time with his family, visiting new holiday destinations and listening to music from all eras. When he finds time to relax in front of the TV, crime dramas are Steve’s go-to shows.
What is your new role at Routen Chaplin?
My role started out doing the administration, now I do a mixture of administration and car renewal invitations.
Before working at Routen Chaplin, what was the most unusual or interesting job you have had?
I worked in corporate travel for several years, which took me to some of the most beautiful hotels in the UK and Europe.
How did you come to take the role at Routen Chaplin?
I had taken a year out of working to concentrate on my family after the pandemic. I missed being in an office environment and saw the administration role advertised, with it being so close to home and the perfect hours that work for me and my family, I decided to apply. Thankfully, I was offered the position and have now been in my role for nearly a year!
How would you describe yourself as an individual?
I am an easy going individual who enjoys being busy. I have always had a strong focus on customer service and love to feel like I am helping people, whether its advice or supporting someone with a claim.

What do you like doing outside of work?
I am very family focused and spend my free time with my husband, 10-year-old daughter and Chihuahua/Jack Russell Mix. At home I like to play computer games with my daughter and cooking. Out of home, I enjoy socialising with friends, going to gigs and shopping.

January 2024.
Before working at Routen Chaplin, what was the most unusual or interesting job you have had?
I wouldn’t say I’ve had any unusual jobs that stand out from the rest, but I’ve definitely come across many unusual and interesting situations, to say the least.
Do you have any particular niche in any insurance specialism?
Most of my experience is in Household Insurance, particularly non-standard properties. I also have experience arranging Model Railway, Club Room and Collection policies, which is always interesting.
How did you come to take the role at Routen Chaplin?
A recruitment agency approached me and informed me about the role. I had an interview with Gemma Bee, our Chief Operating Officer, and felt Routen Chaplin would be a lovely place to work, so I didn’t hesitate when I was offered the role.
How would you describe yourself as an individual?
I would say I’m easy going, not phased by much – even some of the unusual situations I’ve encountered – and I’m always positive and friendly.
Can you sum up your job in three words?
Always something new.
What do you like doing outside of work?
Everyone says spending time with family and friends, and so do I. I love it! If anyone is ever unsure of my whereabouts, I’m probably with my sister, along with my little dog. I have quite a big family, including three nephews so far and I don’t want to miss a second of their growing up. I also have some lovely friends who keep me busy. I’m lucky my husband loves them all as much!

Before working at Routen Chaplin, what was the most unusual or interesting job you have had?
My first job was in a pub, this was particularly interesting because of the variety of people I met and the stories they shared. It gave me the opportunity to hear about different experiences, backgrounds and perspectives which made every shift unique. I really enjoyed the social aspect of the role and the chance to interact and connect with people on a personal level.
Do you have any particular niche in any insurance specialism?
I deal with all personal lines products here at Routen Chaplin, however, I would say my strongest area is arranging Home and Property insurance policies, particularly complex cases and unusual properties.
How did you come to take the role at Routen Chaplin?
I previously worked for larger insurance companies, so when I was presented with the opportunity to be part of a local brokerage, I was excited for the role. I truly value the personal connection that comes from interacting with people from the local community face-to-face.
How would you describe yourself as an individual?
I would say I am a dedicated & approachable person. I thrive off genuine connections and meaningful conversations as I find real purpose in helping others, whether this be in my personal or work life. I value kindness, strong relationships and creating positive experiences.

What do you like doing outside of work?
I love spending quality time with my family, whether that’s days out, relaxed evenings at home, or gaming together. Family time is really important to me and keeps me grounded. I also enjoy trying new foods and exploring different cuisines. When I can, I love going on holidays, whether it be a short trip or a longer break as I enjoy exploring new places & making lasting memories.

What is a typical day in the life at Routen Chaplin?
I have only been in my new role for a couple of weeks so at the moment I am still learning every day. I try and answer as many customer queries as I can over the telephone and email and I am learning how to process changes and renewals. Every day is different at the moment and I love that no two days are the same!
Before working at Routen Chaplin, what was the most unusual or interesting job you have had?
When I was at school at the weekends I worked as a chambermaid for a small b&b. It was quite interesting how some people left their rooms!
Do you have any particular niche is any insurance specialism?
I love the variety that home insurance brings, no two properties are the same.
How did you come to take the role at Routen Chaplin?
I was taken on as a temp after being told about Routen Chaplin by my friend.
How would you describe yourself as an individual?
I think I am a friendly, happy person who gets on with almost everyone, I try my best to help others. I love being a mum to my 3 children and love going running in my spare time.
